Whelan Writing Services is committed to helping students achieve academic excellence.  Whether it is assistance in writing or editing admissions materials to begin your academic journey, improving your writing and language skills while in school or assistance with specific editing projects; allow us to help you raise your grades to the top.

*I have extensive experience working with ESL and international students on all of the services above.  I pride myself on understanding alternate learning styles and language rhetoric and enjoy helping people feel more comfortable with the language I love without dismissing their own.  Please never feel intimidated to ask for help, everyone has different skill sets starting out and I am certain my skill sets would be very low in a lot of other languages I encounter.  What matters is you want to do better.  If that last statement is true, then I can help.

**Whelan Writing Services (WWS) does not offer paper writing services at this time.  Paper rewrites (your own, not plagiarized) will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but rewriting is not the same as editing and will not be treated as such. Please feel free to check back on our site to see if this is a service we may choose to offer in the future.

Academic Editing

I have a great deal of experience working with nearly in style or form of writing.  Every editing project that is not a book or website content is treated as an academic project in that regardless of length, editing consists of three parts.  The first part is line edits that take care of grammatical, spelling or flow issues.  I use track changes so that you are able to see anything I edit and/or change.  I also make comments in your margins regarding anything of note, positive or negative.  Many comments are reactions, potential reactions or other content comments/suggestions.  Finally I provide you with a brief analysis/page of notes.  This analysis discusses areas of concern more in-depth as well as specific ways to make your piece stronger and/or other things to keep in mind.  For subject areas where it is relevant I also examine passive voice and eliminate it if it becomes problematic.  Styles I specialize in include MLA, APA, Chicago and more!  Academic editing will also make sure that you adhere to your intended style and format.  So if you are concerned that you did not format your citations correctly send it my way!
When interested in any form of academic editing please include page count, word count, deadline, format/style, and any specific concerns. I work on a daily basis on short papers (1,000 words or less) to complete dissertations that are hundreds of pages each.  No project is too large or small.

Program Admissions

I have a great deal of experience working with students who are applying for a variety of programs including undergraduate programs, MBA programs, law school, medical school, various other graduate schools including Master’s in Social Work, Psychology programs and nursing schools.  Writing and editing services as well as mock interviews are offered when it comes to admissions.
When it comes to editing admissions materials, the process is the same as academic editing; however emphasis is put on admissions committee viewpoints, keeping a competitive edge, content, and passive voice more than typical academic editing.  Prompts are useful for the analysis to make sure a student covers everything they needed to and used an effective organization to do so.

Writing personal statements is also done, but the base information to expand on must be provided.  Supporting documents like fact sheets and resumes are helpful, but not necessary.  Length restrictions and the original prompts are required.  Resumes can also be edited as part of an admissions package with special pricing and consideration on their purpose.  For more information please see Resumes under Professional Services.

Finally, mock interviews can be scheduled for students applying for competitive MBA and graduate programs that require a face-to-face interview.  Questions are prepared prior to the interview, but the student is unaware of said questions to challenge their ability to think on their feet. Questions cover several categories including academics, professional, career goals, personal, leadership, situational and more.  Please contact me for more information on any of these services.

Interactive Editing

Interactive editing is an academic editing back-and-forth.  Some students require multiple revisions of the same project or perhaps have live writing they need assistance with as soon as they are finished in order to make their deadlines. They are looking for interactive editing.  The editing itself adheres to all of practices of traditional academic editing with the additional of it being a back-and-forth or learning-in-progress. While I edit your papers I put a special focus on making sure you understand the edits to improve your overall skills.  Try out this innovative hybrid between tutoring and traditional editing today and secure your academic future with more than a better grade, but better skills to boot!

Online Tutoring

This service is centered around improving your skillset rather than working on a particular project (though both can be done simultaneously).  Learn more about the language I have loved all of my life based on your needs.
